Judy Freya Sibayan really struck a chord with me. Her disdain for, and disconnect from the institutionalized art world was the catalyst for extraordinary creativity. She even spoke of her disdain for elitist art gallery patrons. I personally have kept my general disdain for the art community under wraps. In general, I avoid art shows. The politics of art and its self importance- though interesting to read about- becomes a dangerous foe at it seeks to suck you in so you to can attain greatness (exactly 1/3 of the greatness male artists will attain) through elitism. FUCK YOU man. I love art, I love making art, I love art that is in the streets and those who make it their lives with the sense that everyone and everything is doing exactly what they need to be doing to achieve something. Expression, enlightenment, solidarity, something! For those that force this ridiculous concept of “good art bad art” ( ie. the institution that i pay to educate me) are pushing institutionalized colonial cannons down our throats. Their intentions are admirable, they are trying to give us the tools to succeed. However if ones “success” in the art world is how thoroughly one can integrate seamlessly into a system that is standardized elitist bullshit- then I say fuck you sir. Fuck you.
